There's the notion that the Hurricanes have to push themselves harder in the preseason, particularly compared to last season. General manager Jim Rutherford has been adamant that the wayward 2009-10 season was caused by the lackluster start to the season and the inability of the team to make the drastic recovery that was needed.
So that should mean an upgraded preseason agenda, an easier assignment this time around after missing the playoffs and the extra work and wear and tear that comes with that. The Hurricanes are eager to make amends for last season.
